National Pink Day

National Pink Day

It’s really a thing! No one is really sure when it started as there are no records of who started it or when it began, but it’s an unofficial holiday that has been celebrated on June 23rd for decades now, and whatever you do, don’t confuse it with the International Day of Pink (April 14th) or the Wear It Pink Day on October 23.

The word “Pink” was used to refer to the color of a Dutch Flower in the 17th Century of the same shade that was named “pinken”.

Oddly, at one time the color “pink” was considered to be a masculine color. It wasn’t until the 1940’s that manufacturers decided “pink” was for girls and “blue” was for boys.

When “pink” began to be seen more as a feminine color there became an unspoken rule that men shouldn’t wear it. However in recent years that stereotype has softened.

Some facts on the Color Pink

There are many different shades of pink such as blush pink, baby pink, dusty pink, hot pink, cool pink and rose…

Different shades of pink can have different effects on the brain. Softer pinks are known to be calming and soothing, while brighter pinks are thought to make pastries taste better and look more appealing.

The color pink was not know in China until Chinese people began interacting with Western cultures. This is why in the Chinese language the symbol for pink means “foreign color”.

Lastly scientists has stated that pink is the oldest color that has existed and survived on the earth. It’s over 1.1 billion years old….
