About Jim Tincher Photography

I've been a photographer most of my life, since I was about 13 years old when I bought my first 35MM SLR camera in 1973. I hope you enjoy the journey as I talk about my photography, the people I meet and the experiences I have to tell. Occasionally I'll talk about something else. I hope you enjoy!

Project Beauty – Mallory

In her own words

True Beauty- -True beauty comes from the inside out. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who is 100% in their own skin.

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

To my surprise I actually loved this no makeup photoshop. It was so freeing to be naturally myself in front of a camera for the first time.

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

To me this session meant acceptance. Learning to accept the things that I’ve once seen as flaws and learning to love things I used to hide.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

Project beauty was very special for me. I encourage everyone at some point to to do something out of their comfort zone. This shoot reminded me the importance of self love.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This shoot changed how I view myself without all of the superficial aspects. Looks will fade but your inner beauty never will.

Testimonial. Could you share your testimony?

I challenge everyone to embrace who they are naturally. Like I said there is nothing more beautiful than someone who loves who they are, has confidence and loves their flaws.

Project Beauty – Autumn

In her own words

True Beauty- True Beauty to me, is someone who no matter their circumstances, is still good at heart. Someone who will give the clothes off their back to someone who has none. Life is too short to not do good deeds for people. My great grandmother always told me “pretty is, what pretty does.” I’m a firm believer in that quote. You can be absolutely gorgeous, but if you only care about yourself, your physical beautiful seems to be overlooked by others.

image_Autumn_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureHow did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

When I first found out about the no makeup shoot, I got a little nervous to be honest, because I usually have to wear lots of makeup for pageant headshots etc. Once I found out the meaning behind this shoot, I was all in for the natural look of this. It felt great to just show the world the real me.

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

My session meant a lot to me. After seeing a few unedited pictures on the camera, I realized that true beauty from inside really shines through, everyone has qualities that make them beautiful. I think my shoot really showed my true character, and I couldn’t be more happy about that.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I feel Project Beauty was very necessary in this generation. Sooo many pictures are photoshopped, people are getting so many cosmetic procedures, everything in 2017 is based on how you look, and it leads to lots of pressure for teens. It’s such a great way to embrace natural beauty and show people who struggle with self image, it’s okay to be yourself.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

Yes, it has, After this shoot I felt very courageous for going out with crazy wavy hair, and no makeup, since lots of people nowadays would feel exposed if they did what I did. I learned that it is totally Okay to be yourself.

Testimonial. Could you share your testimony?

Growing up, I was severely bullied, I was taunted, my social media was hacked by “friends”, and I ate alone at the lunch table many times throughout my middle school years. I struggled so much with my image, and I eventually led into depression. Finally after having horrible middle school experiences, my mother moved me to a different school. Ever since I switched, I’ve been a happier person, being in a positive environment, has really helped me, I do not sit alone at the lunch table, I have friends, and I have a great role on our volleyball team. I learned that YOU are not the problem, it’s the people who make you feel down, who are the problem.

Project Beauty – Natasha

In her own words

True Beauty- is something that people don’t realize they already have!

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing makeup made me very self-conscious because I have always been in an environment that girls or guys look weird without makeup. To me makeup is like a shield to guard from not only judgement but from my own self criticism.

image_Natasha_jim tincher photography_project beauty_picture

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

This session meant a lot to me because it showed me that I’m not that ugly girl anymore but I’m a beautiful girl who should give less crap about what she looks like. As long as I know deep down I’m beautiful I feel like everything is going to be alright.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

Project beauty is an amazing thing to me.  Not only does it show the model that they are truly beautiful it shows to other girls to get out of their comfort zones and show everyone no matter what they wear or look like they are the true definition of beauty.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This experience greatly changed the way I see myself. I am no longer scared to run outside without makeup. If I ever have doubts, I think of the photos I took and remind myself that I am truly beautiful no matter who else says differently.

Testimonial. Could you share your testimony?

I feel like I could share my testimonial to other  girls and guys since I know I’m not the only person who has felt this way before. And if I ever got the chance again to share my story, I would hope that it would truly change the way they feel about themselves because in my eyes they are beautiful.

Project Beauty – Amber

In her own words

True Beauty- True beauty to me is not all about your appearances or physical features. True beauty is deep within a person, their personality, how they act and treat others.

image_Amber_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureHow did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing any makeup makes me feel nervous because I feel like people will pick out every little flaw and not as confident.

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

The session was lots of fun and it meant a lot to me because it opened my eyes that you don’t need makeup to feel beautiful!

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I feel that project beauty is a great project to start because it’s encouraging girls to be more confident in their Own skin and feeling beautiful without makeup. Along with changing society’s views for the better.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This experience has changed my view towards myself. I finally feel comfortable going out places without makeup, and still feel confident, not being worried about what others think!

Testimonial. Could you share your testimony?

My testimonial would be that I never felt confident enough to show my face or go out in public without makeup. Now I do because I’ve learned each and everyone is beautiful in their own unique way! Being a pageant girl there’s always the pressure to look flawless, but everyone has flaws and I’m okay with mine….

Project Beauty – Elizabeth

In her own words

True Beauty- True beauty is loving yourself and the skin you are in. It is finding joy in the person you are and allowing yourself to be happy. True beauty is the kindness that shows through in your eyes and the passions that are revealed in your smile. True beauty is knowing you were made perfect the way you are.

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing make up was an uncomfortable feeling. Even though I stopped wearing make up that often after high school it took a long time to be comfortable and feel pretty image_Elle_jim tincher photography_project beauty_picturewithout it. I used to never be being willing to have my picture taken fresh faced without being embarrassed or feeling ashamed. Taking these pictures though I felt free from forced unrealistic standards and felt beautiful just being myself.

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

To me my session represented the liberation I feel from my past demons. After suffering for years with an eating disorder and depression I am finally able to look in the mirror and love what I see. I am able to be confident in myself and happy with my life.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I adore project beauty. Everyone needs a reminder that it is okay to love yourself.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This experience hasn’t changed how I see myself but it has strengthend my new found acceptance of myself and has allowed me to celebrate who I am.

Testimonial. Could you share your testimony?

I have always suffered from body image issues. I hit my growth spurts early so I was taller and more muscular than everyone in my class including the boys. I was always embarrassed of my body. I remember that I even got a pair of jeans I loved in 7th grade because they made my legs look short. Can you believe that?! My shoulders are wide and my thighs are big. I used to hate that, but now I realize my muscular legs allow me to run miles and ruck with the guys. My shoulders let me lift weights and do the sports I enjoy. My body has taken care of me and kept me alive multiple times through multiple illnesses. I spent years suffering from depression. Most days are good, but some are bad and very few are very very bad. The bad days are getting less and less though. I have learned that life isn’t always going to workout the way I planned and there is nothing wrong with that, and there is nothing wrong with me. Through the grace of God and the love I have received I have grown to accept and love who I am. For the first time in a long time I can look in the mirror and know that I am truly okay. I am happy and grateful for the blessed life I have been given.

Project Beauty – Mikenna

In her own words

True Beauty- True beauty is not about appearance, but it is about who you are. It is how you treat others and how you carry yourself. True beauty is happiness and strength. Appearances will change, however, real beauty will never fade.

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

I found having a shoot with no makeup to be lots of fun. I feel confident in my skin and personally loved not having to do my makeup!

image_Mikenna_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureThinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

The session, to me, felt like I could be beautiful without makeup. It made me feel as if I could show my inner beauty through the photos without makeup.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I think project beauty is a wonderful concept. Teaching young women that beauty is not just defined by your looks. I also love that our group is raising money for a philanthropy.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

Yes, this experience taught me about myself. It taught me to be more confident and that outer beauty is not everything.

Project Beauty – Cora

In her own words

True Beauty- True beauty goes deeper than one’s looks, it’s how she portrays her character and confidence.

image_Cora_jim tincher photography_project beauty_picture

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Truthfully I’m not much into wearing makeup a lot, but it was very different not wearing it in front of the camera. It took a lot of courage from me but I loved it!

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

This session meant more to me than I expected. Growing up, I faced comments that made me very insecure about my body type; there was a point where I felt bad about even wearing a tank top and shorts. I thank Jim and this project because it has shown me there’s much more to me than what they said, that I’m more than what meets the eye!

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I believe every girl should have this opportunity. It’s a project that targets what every single girl is dealing with no matter who they are.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

As stated before, this project has changed my perspective of myself. I feel as if I can look past the looks of everyone, especially myself, and focus on mine and their character and confidence. Which is what makes a person who they are.

Project Beauty – Landry

In her own words

True Beauty- In my eyes, true beauty comes from the inside. Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;” and I feel that no matter what you look like, kindness, love and compassion are beautiful. In young girls minds, “beauty” is defined in how many likes you have on your Instagram picture, or by who stays up with all the latest fashion and trends but I can tell you that trying to fit in with world is stressful and causes you to loose your unique self. Love who God made you be because there is only one you!

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing makeup made me feel refreshed and myself! Personally, I prefer no makeup because;

  1. In the mornings you get some extra
  2. It’s a way to let people see the true me!

image_Landry_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureThinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

To me, my session was about speaking up for those without a voice. The modern day and age puts so much pure pressure on women to be the perfect face, perfect body, and lead to a perfect life but they forget to mention to be confident in who you are beacause you are beautiful!

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I love what Project Beauty is all about and how they’re not afraid to take a stand against society.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This experience has raised my confidence in the girl God made me to be!

Testimonial. Could you share your testimonial?

I want to encourage others to get to know the person behind the face. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but kindness is recognized by everyone. Whether someone likes what they see on the outside of me or not, I want them to look past my outward appearance and hopefully see a heart that is kind and truly cares about people. This is how I try to “see” those around me as well!

Project Beauty – Emma

In her own words

True Beauty- Your beauty comes from your personality. It’s who you are and everything you love. Not your appearance.

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing makeup made me feel more free and more like myself.

image_Emma_jim tincher photography_project beauty_picture

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

I got to show my personality without anyone expecting me to be something else, or to have a specific look that society praises.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

Personally, I love it! I think it’s something that show girls they are beautiful without makeup and starts a conversation about inner beauty and certain illnesses that aren’t usually talked about.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

Yes. I see that I don’t need to have a certain “look”

Testimonial. Could you share your testimonial?

I have struggled with body image before, along with most girls. I also have invisible illnesses that most people don’t understand. It was great to find out I’m not alone and that people can help and learn to understand and even relate to me.

Project Beauty – Lauren

In her own words

True beauty is not about what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that shines out. True beauty is being able to find the good in every situation and every person. It is taking whatever life throws at you and keeping a positive attitude, allowing obstacles to make you stronger and more understanding of others, like a flower that grows through concrete. “A flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” It is being kind to everyone you meet. It is a good sense of humor and a light and loving heart. If you are beautiful on the inside, it shows on the outside.

M

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

For the first hour, I felt exposed and vulnerable. I felt as if everyone was staring at the flaws I obsess over in the mirror after I wash my face every night. The acne, the scars, the shiny forehead, the lines beneath my cheeks. They could see everything. EVERYTHING. But as time passed, I began to feel a lot more free and confident. Everyone could see me the way God created me. And God doesn’t make mistakes, so who am I to jimage_Lauren_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureudge? Everyone should go a couple days without makeup. I definitely felt more beautiful and comfortable in my own skin after realizing that nobody else even noticed those lines beneath my cheeks. I realized I am way harder on myself than anyone else.

M

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

To me, my session meant encouraging natural beauty and letting others know that everyone has flaws and their flaws are beautiful too. Embrace it. You yourself are your beauty. Your skin, your personality, the way you treat others, your confidence, your outlook on life, etc.

M
What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I believe project beauty is a great way to embrace natural beauty opposed to the makeup craze of 2017. I am a strong believer in doing whatever makes you feel beautiful. If makeup makes you feel beautiful, then wear makeup!! But Project Beauty works to show that even without makeup, everyone is beautiful.

M
Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

Yes, this experience has shown me that beauty isn’t what’s on the outside. If you have a beautiful mind and heart, it will show through your skin. Through this project I’ve learned to love myself for who I am. I now see myself for who I am on the inside rather than as my flaws on the outside.

M
Testimonial. Could you share your testimonial?

I have this obsession with keeping my face matte. I’ve always had oily skin and struggled with acne but coming into high school, I was told a shiny face was not a desirable look. People would point out others and talk about them having a “greasy” face. The word greasy doesn’t necessarily have a positive connotation either. I looked back on pictures from middle school where I thought I was a makeup guru, but really I was just a greasy mess. Starting freshman year, I wouldn’t be caught dead without my powder. I carried powder every where I went and I powdered my forehead and nose every chance I got. I was going crazy trying to meet everyone else’s standards. However, today’s trend is contouring, and with contouring comes highlighter. But even with this new fad of highlighter, I was still constantly powdering my face. While other girls looked amazing with those sparkling cheekbones, every time I looked in the mirror after applying highlighter, I saw that seventh grade version of me after a long day of middle school. Just recently I’ve come to realize that I am much harder on myself than anyone else. I realize now that the things I dislike about myself, other people may love and seek after, like a shiny face. And even then, beauty isn’t what everyone else expects out of you. Beauty is embracing your flaws and wearing your skin as if it’s a perfectly fitting million dollar Sherri Hill. After working with all these girls in Project Beauty and hearing their struggles with self image, I realize that my flaws are what make me, and I should not be ashamed. I should be proud of them. To me, beauty is a choice. If you choose to be beautiful on the inside, and you do get to choose, then you will radiate beauty on the outside.

There will be a reveal Monday August 14th (stay tuned for the location announcement) where you can come see all the images we captured and to learn more about Project Beauty. If you’d like to schedule your own Project Beauty shoot in order to help this worthwhile project you can do at Project Beauty.
