Project Beauty – Cora

In her own words

True Beauty- True beauty goes deeper than one’s looks, it’s how she portrays her character and confidence.

image_Cora_jim tincher photography_project beauty_picture

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Truthfully I’m not much into wearing makeup a lot, but it was very different not wearing it in front of the camera. It took a lot of courage from me but I loved it!

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

This session meant more to me than I expected. Growing up, I faced comments that made me very insecure about my body type; there was a point where I felt bad about even wearing a tank top and shorts. I thank Jim and this project because it has shown me there’s much more to me than what they said, that I’m more than what meets the eye!

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I believe every girl should have this opportunity. It’s a project that targets what every single girl is dealing with no matter who they are.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

As stated before, this project has changed my perspective of myself. I feel as if I can look past the looks of everyone, especially myself, and focus on mine and their character and confidence. Which is what makes a person who they are.

Project Beauty – Landry

In her own words

True Beauty- In my eyes, true beauty comes from the inside. Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;” and I feel that no matter what you look like, kindness, love and compassion are beautiful. In young girls minds, “beauty” is defined in how many likes you have on your Instagram picture, or by who stays up with all the latest fashion and trends but I can tell you that trying to fit in with world is stressful and causes you to loose your unique self. Love who God made you be because there is only one you!

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing makeup made me feel refreshed and myself! Personally, I prefer no makeup because;

  1. In the mornings you get some extra
  2. It’s a way to let people see the true me!

image_Landry_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureThinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

To me, my session was about speaking up for those without a voice. The modern day and age puts so much pure pressure on women to be the perfect face, perfect body, and lead to a perfect life but they forget to mention to be confident in who you are beacause you are beautiful!

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I love what Project Beauty is all about and how they’re not afraid to take a stand against society.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This experience has raised my confidence in the girl God made me to be!

Testimonial. Could you share your testimonial?

I want to encourage others to get to know the person behind the face. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but kindness is recognized by everyone. Whether someone likes what they see on the outside of me or not, I want them to look past my outward appearance and hopefully see a heart that is kind and truly cares about people. This is how I try to “see” those around me as well!

Project Beauty – Emma

In her own words

True Beauty- Your beauty comes from your personality. It’s who you are and everything you love. Not your appearance.

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

Not wearing makeup made me feel more free and more like myself.

image_Emma_jim tincher photography_project beauty_picture

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

I got to show my personality without anyone expecting me to be something else, or to have a specific look that society praises.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

Personally, I love it! I think it’s something that show girls they are beautiful without makeup and starts a conversation about inner beauty and certain illnesses that aren’t usually talked about.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

Yes. I see that I don’t need to have a certain “look”

Testimonial. Could you share your testimonial?

I have struggled with body image before, along with most girls. I also have invisible illnesses that most people don’t understand. It was great to find out I’m not alone and that people can help and learn to understand and even relate to me.

Project Beauty – Lauren

In her own words

True beauty is not about what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that shines out. True beauty is being able to find the good in every situation and every person. It is taking whatever life throws at you and keeping a positive attitude, allowing obstacles to make you stronger and more understanding of others, like a flower that grows through concrete. “A flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” It is being kind to everyone you meet. It is a good sense of humor and a light and loving heart. If you are beautiful on the inside, it shows on the outside.

M

How did not wearing any makeup make you feel?

For the first hour, I felt exposed and vulnerable. I felt as if everyone was staring at the flaws I obsess over in the mirror after I wash my face every night. The acne, the scars, the shiny forehead, the lines beneath my cheeks. They could see everything. EVERYTHING. But as time passed, I began to feel a lot more free and confident. Everyone could see me the way God created me. And God doesn’t make mistakes, so who am I to jimage_Lauren_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureudge? Everyone should go a couple days without makeup. I definitely felt more beautiful and comfortable in my own skin after realizing that nobody else even noticed those lines beneath my cheeks. I realized I am way harder on myself than anyone else.

M

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

To me, my session meant encouraging natural beauty and letting others know that everyone has flaws and their flaws are beautiful too. Embrace it. You yourself are your beauty. Your skin, your personality, the way you treat others, your confidence, your outlook on life, etc.

M
What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I believe project beauty is a great way to embrace natural beauty opposed to the makeup craze of 2017. I am a strong believer in doing whatever makes you feel beautiful. If makeup makes you feel beautiful, then wear makeup!! But Project Beauty works to show that even without makeup, everyone is beautiful.

M
Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

Yes, this experience has shown me that beauty isn’t what’s on the outside. If you have a beautiful mind and heart, it will show through your skin. Through this project I’ve learned to love myself for who I am. I now see myself for who I am on the inside rather than as my flaws on the outside.

M
Testimonial. Could you share your testimonial?

I have this obsession with keeping my face matte. I’ve always had oily skin and struggled with acne but coming into high school, I was told a shiny face was not a desirable look. People would point out others and talk about them having a “greasy” face. The word greasy doesn’t necessarily have a positive connotation either. I looked back on pictures from middle school where I thought I was a makeup guru, but really I was just a greasy mess. Starting freshman year, I wouldn’t be caught dead without my powder. I carried powder every where I went and I powdered my forehead and nose every chance I got. I was going crazy trying to meet everyone else’s standards. However, today’s trend is contouring, and with contouring comes highlighter. But even with this new fad of highlighter, I was still constantly powdering my face. While other girls looked amazing with those sparkling cheekbones, every time I looked in the mirror after applying highlighter, I saw that seventh grade version of me after a long day of middle school. Just recently I’ve come to realize that I am much harder on myself than anyone else. I realize now that the things I dislike about myself, other people may love and seek after, like a shiny face. And even then, beauty isn’t what everyone else expects out of you. Beauty is embracing your flaws and wearing your skin as if it’s a perfectly fitting million dollar Sherri Hill. After working with all these girls in Project Beauty and hearing their struggles with self image, I realize that my flaws are what make me, and I should not be ashamed. I should be proud of them. To me, beauty is a choice. If you choose to be beautiful on the inside, and you do get to choose, then you will radiate beauty on the outside.

Project Beauty – Laken

In her own words

True Beauty to me is being able to be yourself and be confident. It’s always reassuring to see girls be happy with their bodies and happy in their skin and I think that shows true beauty because no one should be afraid to be who they are or show themselves off.

image_Laken_jim tincher photography_project beauty_pictureHow did not wearing makeup make you feel?

I felt vulnerable not wearing any makeup during the session. I have not done many sessions nor do I model a lot but every time that I have I have been wearing makeup and usually tons of it and it felt odd to not be wearing any at all.

Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?

My session to me meant that I could be me by posing how I wanted and making the faces I wanted and not feeling like I had to be perfect because the session was about being true.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?

I feel that Project Beauty is an unfiltered campaign that will truly capture the beauty of all the young women participating.

Has this experience changed how you see yourself?

This experience has honestly made me more comfortable not wearing makeup because everyone is beautiful without it and all makeup does is cause breakouts and dirty skin so why not be my true self and have my natural skin and show the real me.

Project Beauty – Nancy

In her own words

“True beauty” I feel isn’t defined by looks but rather the way you carry yourself and your character. I say carry yourself because happy people make me smile and have their own little light, they make me feel important just being around them, and I say your character because ugly personalities aren’t the kind of people I want to be surrounded by. Happy and caring people help bring out the beauty in others.
m
How did not wearing makeup make you feel?
1- not what I was expecting to have my picture taken, I felt “naked” my face needed color, but it was fun.
m
Thinking about it, what did your session mean to you?
2- I was glad to be chosen and the fact that someone wanted my photo with no make up made me have a lot of confidence.

What are your thoughts or how do you feel about Project Beauty?
3- I think it’s a good idea. A good way to promote self worth.
 m
Has this experience changed how you see yourself?
4- I wouldn’t say it’s made me look at myself different but I did give me a confidence boost. To care about what’s inside more than out.
 m
Could you share your testimonial?
5-Growing up I always looked to older girls, seeing the way they style their hair, the clothes they wear, and the way they present themselves. Then starting my freshman year, I really let that consume me. I always wanted to look nice, full face of make up, curl or straightened hair, shoulders back, and fake the smile. Starting my sophomore year I really started to see how that didn’t matter! I didn’t need the make up, the clothes, the hair, I just needed to feel comfortable with myself. The more I focused on what I thought of myself, rather than what others thought, the happier I became and the more I thought about helping others rather being so self consumed. I think Project Beauty will help promote the fact that your looks aren’t what make you beautiful but rather where your heart is. What you surround yourself with and the way you treat yourself & others.

Project Beauty

Something needs to change

As a senior photographer and as part of a national campaign, I want to free girls from the thought of perfection. The notion of the perfect beauty promoted by social media and our society is impossible to achieve. Over the next few weeks, my Senior Model Team will help lead a local campaign that will help raise awareness and donations for bullying, hopelessness, thoughts of suicide, eating disorders and other problems girls face today. In their own genuine way, in their own confidence, they will define what beauty truly means to each of them, without the need of makeup and without today’s fashion.

This is #ProjectBeauty2017

Project Beauty 36
Lead by my Senior Model Team and a few others, a total of 17 girls helped to lay the foundation of this project. They all have their own personal stories to share. My goal was to portray these amazing girls in an entirely new way, to get as close as possible to them — and to capture their uniquely beautiful self.

Tribal

Jim Tincher Photography Senior Model Team is Featured on the Seniors Ignite Website again this month!

It feels good to be featured again! This time the shoot theme is totally different from the others. I’m so happy that 7 of my 10 Senior Models were able to participate!. I can’t tell you how much fun this shoot actually was other than to say watching the girls getting into the concept was such a blast I almost forgot to shoot it!

This was originally going to be my submission for the “backlight” shoot and Fire was going to be how it was backlit. However we were rained out and didn’t get to shoot. Because the girls had put in so much effort I decided we would shoot it anyway as a fun group shoot. So the fires weren’t as big as previously planned.

About a week after we shot is when the challenge was announced and it was the color Red. I mulled it over and decided to submit even though red isn’t the primary color, it is still dominate. To my delight the shoot was accepted and featured on the Seniors Ignite Web Site as a “featured photographer”!

During the shoot I gave them no direction and left it up to them to do what they wanted to do. I can’t tell you how much fun they were having… Several of my seniors are dancers so they came up with tribal dance they did in addition to everything else. When it was time to end they didn’t want to end but eventually we got everything packed up.

The Challenge this month was the color Red!

Red is the color of extremes. It’s the color of passionate love, seduction, violence, danger, anger, and adventure. Our prehistoric ancestors saw red as the color of fire and blood – energy and primal life forces, war – and most of red’s symbolism today arises from its powerful associations in the past.

In Native American society the symbolism of face paint with red meant faith, beauty and happiness and its meaning as War Paint meant blood, violence and energy.

In the Tribal Shoot the color red is an accent color, though not much is used it is still dominant and striking. I worked with my designer (Kimberly Wade) to come up with the overall look I wanted with the costumes. However, I wanted my Senior Models to personalize what they wore to reflect themselves. Each piece was basically the same in appearance at first. During the fitting is when they would then reshape the skirt and top to their own taste. We then added the strips of fabric to create the shape of what they wore and accent it with the color red.

Staffs are a weapon and a status symbol denoted in how they are adorned. The symbolism behind the white face paint represents sharing, purity and light.

Architecture

Jim Tincher Photography Senior Model Miranda is featured on the Seniors Ignite website this month!

It feels so good to have my Architecture shoot with Miranda featured once again on the Seniors Ignite website! The challenge was to integrate architecture into the shoot. I thought about it long and hard and decided I wanted something iconic. Bridges are often that “iconic” structure such as London Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge or the Golden Gate Bridge… Truth is, we have a historical and iconic bridge right here in Kentucky that was the inspiration for the well known Brooklyn Bridge.

The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, named for the civil engineer who designed it, has been an iconic Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky suspension bridge along the city skyline for nearly a century and a half. When the Roebling Suspension Bridge opened to traffic on January 1, 1867, its 1,057-foot span made it the longest suspension bridge in the world, a record it retained until 1883 when Roebling’s most famous project, the Brooklyn Bridge opened. During this shoot the famous lights that span the wires were not operating due to maintenance.

The Great American Ball Park is another iconic structure near the foot of the John Roebling Suspension Bridge. Many of Reds fans walked across the bridge to the ball park to see the Reds play a night game. We were fortunate enough during this shoot for the Cincinnati Reds to be playing at home, which in addition to the tug boats and other city lights on the Ohio provided the ambient background lighting.

I hope you enjoy the images of Miranda as much as I did in taking them….
